| Notes | Avoid or restrict in established cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension or severe hepatic impairment. Use with caution in CKD and elderly; monitor BP, renal function, and GI symptoms. |
Severity: Severe
Adverse Effects:
Dyspepsia, abdominal pain, edema, hypertension, headache, dizziness; increased risk of thrombotic cardiovascular events and, less than non-selective NSAIDs, but still possible, GI ulcer/bleeding.
Contraindications:
Established ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease; severe hepatic impairment; active peptic ulcer or GI bleeding; advanced heart failure; known hypersensitivity to etoricoxib, other COX-2 inhibitors, or serious NSAID reactions.
Precautions:
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Monitor blood pressure, edema, renal function (especially in CKD, elderly, volume depletion), and GI symptoms. Exercise caution with concurrent anticoagulants, antiplatelets, ACE inhibitors/ARBs, or diuretics. Avoid in pregnancy, especially 3rd trimester.
